Day 209 - Discovering Pessoa

MorrisseysWorld is BACK IN BUSINESS, the South American Tour Journal (part 1) has been published, MW has promised that Morrissey will DEFINITELY wear a BLUE ROSE before 2012 is out, and by jove, I've got it, I think I've got it.....Morrissey is the modern day Fernando Pessoa, although he isn't Portugese, and his name isn't Fernando, or indeed Pessoa, but that's where the non similarities end! Welcome to 'FollowingTheMozziah'.

Who is Pessoa I hear you cry? Well of course, I didn't have a clue, what with me being an unread, uneducated, nobody from the South of England, but @sweetestflower (Morrissey?) has recently been quoting Pessoa on twitter, and Pessoa's 'Book of Disquiet' is listed as a favourite of Morrissey's. A little investigation on wikipedia shows that Pessoa "was one of the most significant literacy figures of the twentieth century, and was possibly Portugal's finest ever poet." Pessoa wrote under many, many different names, or personas, just like Morrissey has been doing on twitter and with his blog, and on so-low, and god knows where else *crosses self*.

A quote I have found on wiki from 'The Book of Disquiet', which incidentally is written under the pseudonym Bernando Soares, although Pessoa himself, didn't call them pseudonym's (which just means false), he called them hetronym's, which instead of just meaning false, means a 'character having their own supposed physique, biography and writing style'. Where was I? Oh yes, the quote from 'The Book of Disquiet'. The quote reads, "In Lisbon there are a few restaurants or eating houses located above decent-looking taverns. These second-story eateries, usually empty except on Sundays, frequently contain curious types whose faces are not interesting but who constitute a series of digressions from life." Could twitter be Morrissey's "second-story eatery", where he digresses from the monotony of life by taking on a variety of personas/hetronyms to amuse himself/pass away time with us faceless nobodies?

If Morrissey IS a modern day Pessoa, and has made a whole load of hetronym's on twitter, so-low etc, as I have been suggesting, then it explains so, so much. Just how many of the various tweeters 'are' Morrissey, and does each character/hetronym have a complete profile? We have 'Broken Morrissey', the troubled homosexual poet in his early thirties, we have Romina Ricci, the Italian mother and housewife, we have Kate Ryan, the obsessive Morrissey fan, we have 'Our Mozzer', the Morrissey parody, Boz Boorer (drag version only), the list goes on and on. Is fancy123, the supposed 'American grandfather', yet another Morrissey persona? I thought 'fancy' might be Russell Brand, surely he's not a Pessoa too? And what role is '@MorrisseysMum' now playing? She started off as, funnily enough, 'Morrissey's mum', but she(?) now no longer carries that hetronym, she seems to have no particular identity, a hetronym that has lost it's way?

Talking of @MorrisseysMum, on April 5th, she/he/Moz/lost soul, tweeted, "UK?" and then three days later the one UK concert for 2012 was announced in Manchester. On April 7th, Mum tweeted, "Are any birds low flying?" which is obviously a reference to Noel Gallagher's 'High Flying Birds'. Mum has tweeted about Noel before, are we set to see Noel announced as the 'support act' for the Manchester concert? On April 8th, Mum tweeted, "Eire?" Are we going to see an announcement for an Eire concert?

So, back to MorrisseysWorld, and the TWO new articles, like bleeding buses to coin a phrase, although the original phase may not have had a 'bleeding' in it, but then again, if the phrase originated in London, it may well have contained a 'bleeding', because all Londoners say 'bleeding' don't they? Well they probably don't anymore because 'old' London is dead, but I daren't talk anymore on that, or I'll be accused of racism again. Talking of racism, a little birdy mentioned in the MW chat room yesterday that the NME court case won't now be going ahead as they have settled out of court, and that is why Morrissey has been able to book concerts in July. Is this true? I suppose we'll find out soon enough, and if it is true, remember where you read it first.

Back to MW (again). The first article listed today was titled, 'My Live Tour Journal - Sudamerica 2012! Part 1', and it is HILARIOUS. There is a dream about Bieber, a toss up about performing 'Boy Racer' or 'Sheila Take a Bow', a great conversation with a 'foreigner', who turns out to be Jesse (no doubt Mozzer will be accused of racism for that, good thing it wasn't set in 'old London', the bleeding pc brigade would have strung him up), a description of the record ticket sales for a Peruvian leisure centre, the 52 valentine's day cards from Boz, So-low moaning about Viva Hate re-issue, and my personal highlight, the back handed compliment to the 'stalkerish blogger', eg MW. Oh the irony. Genius. One of 'Our Mozzer's' best ever articles.

The second article is titled 'MorrisseysWorld Prophecy Page - and a new pledge.' This article points out that 'every' MW pledge has been fulfilled and only one remains, the wearing of a 'pop act' t-shirt. The article also lists 4 prophecies, which came true. They are as follows:
1) That Morrissey would remove his shirt at the London Palladium. TICK (I was there, I saw it happen)
2) That Morrissey would appear before Christmas with a rose. TICK (Magazine article written by Linder Sterling)
3) That Morrissey would appear AGAIN with a rose before Christmas. TICK (Pomona November 28th, which incidentally MW says was 'missed' by FollowingTheMozziah, which isn't true, see my blog entries of November 29th & 30th.)
4) That Morrissey would appear yet AGAIN with a rose. TICK (March 17th in Bogota, Columbia, the final date of the tour, where The Mozziah had to streeeeetch to take hold of a white rose, that actually looked red due to the lighting, which actually was another prophecy, about a white rose turning red when the blood runs (the song was You Have Killed Me). )

The article finishes by saying:

"WE CAN NOW EXCLUSIVELY PLEDGE that BLUE ROSE will be FULFILLED. Before 2012 is out, Morrissey will finally appear with a BLUE ROSE."

The intrigue, the mystery continues. In nine days time, the Asian leg of the World tour kicks off in Sendai, Japan. When will BLUE ROSE appear? When it does appear, will 'Trouble Loves Me' appear too? Will all the MorrisseyWorlders who have 'lost their way', re-find the path? Will So-lowers finally join in the fun and embrace MW? Will MW vanish? Will the world ever listen? Does the world care? Is 'Life is a Pigsty' the best song ever, ever, ever? Will Morrissey's diaries turn out to be his very own 'Book of Disquiet'? Will Morrissey one day be acknowledged as a modern day Dick Emery? And most importantly of all, is Richard Madeley illegally married to his mother?

One thing's for sure, when I first found MW, never did I dream that six months later I would have been introduced to Dante, Pessoa and the many faces of Morrissey. He's so much more than a songwriting genius, he's, he's, well, he's 'Our Mozzer'.

*Goes off singing* Trouble loves me, Trouble needs me, two things more than you do, or would attempt to.
