Introducing Morrissey's Blue Rose Society

The Blue Rose Society (BRS) are a group of Morrissey fans, who were brought together having discovered a website called MorrisseysWorld.blogspot.com. The Blue Rose Society was formed in November 2011 by the unknown author of the MorrisseysWorld site, who many of the BRS believe to be Morrissey himself. It is believed Morrissey formed the society in honour of his literary hero Oscar Wilde, who not only had a theme of roses running through his work, but also had his own society called the Green Carnation.

One of Wilde's most famous works is The Nightingale and the Rose; a short story in which a nightingale gives it's blood, thus sacrificing it's life, to dye a white rose red. The red rose ends up not being required, and is tossed into the gutter. Just days after the formation of the BRS, a red rose was presented to Morrissey on stage in Pomona, but just as in The Nightingale and the Rose, Morrissey tossed it away. A coincidence?

Just a few months after the formation of the BRS, Morrissey took to the stage with a backdrop picture of Oscar Wilde asking, "Who is Morrissey?" Another coincidence?

Most of the members of the Blue Rose Society interact on twitter, or The Twitterdilly Arms as they like to call their 'online Morrissey theme pub'. The BRS members chat about all things Morrissey, but they also have an objective; to take roses to Morrissey's concerts, and offer them to Morrissey.

Morrissey concerts have always featured flowers, and in the early days of The Smiths in the 1980's, it was mainly gladioli, but since the inception of the Blue Rose Society, the only flowers that Morrissey has accepted on stage have been roses. Yet another coincidence?

On October 10 2012, Morrissey not only accepted a blue rose from a member of the BRS at the concert at Radio City Music Hall in New York, but he wore it in his pocket:

On March 2 2013, Morrissey again accepted and wore a blue rose at his Hollywood High concert in LA. This concert was filmed and released as Morrissey25:Live. A coincidence that Morrissey accepted and wore a blue rose during the making of his film?

On October 17 2013, Morrissey launched his Autobiography with a book signing in Gothenburg Sweden. Placed in front of Morrissey's table was a vase of roses, which he made a point of touching. Another coincidence?

On December 11 2013, Morrissey returned to the stage after a nine month break, and sang three songs at the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in Oslo, Norway. He wore a bracelet of white roses. Yet another coincidence?

On May 8 2014, in Santa Ana Ca, on the second date of Morrissey's new tour, Morrissey yet again accepted and wore a blue rose. Another coincidence?

The MorrisseysWorld website tends to come and go, as does the associated twitter account @MorrisseyParody. Most people just cannot accept that it could possibly be the real Morrissey behind this website and twitter account, but whether it is him or not has become irrelevant, as Morrissey has now shown many times that he fully supports the Blue Rose Society, and it is obvious that he wants roses at his concerts.

If you ask @MorrisseyParody if he is the real Morrissey, he will tell you that he isn't, just as he did on his website True-To-You back in 2011..... but as Morrissey once said in 1987, "I lie a lot - it's really useful."

The BRS have a theme tune, 'Trouble Loves Me', which has the words 'Blue Rose' hidden within the title. Coincidentally, Morrissey's new LP 'World Peace is None of Your Business' also has 'Blue Rose' hidden within the title.

Morrissey has even worn a blue rose on stage whilst singing the BRS theme tune. Another coincidence:

"Speaking in terms of the Nightingale and the Rose, I always thought of Morrissey as the girl, and we're the students, doing our best to please him with our gifts. But I can understand why he's not keen on a rose that an animal has suffered and died for. He only once accepted a red rose, but threw it away, then a white rose, which he happily tossed around before placing it somewhere near the drum kit. But the only roses he's ever plucked from the audience and actually worn are blue. They stand for unrequited love, so, despite him accepting the roses, the students still walk home alone after a show. I think that's a beautiful thought. Should Morrissey ever accept my blue rose, I'll go home and I won't cry and I won't want to die that time. " - A Blue Rose Society Member June 4 2013
