Day 1064 - "Nobody ever knows another man's heart and mind"

So here we are again. It has now been one thousand and sixty four days since I discovered that Morrissey was on twitter (via http://morrisseysworldismoz.blogspot.co.uk), and yet his latest twitter account (@stillMozsworld) has just 98 followers, of which only a handful of those actually believe it is the real Morrissey! I started writing my blog thirteen days after having discovered @MorrisseysWorld, and have continued ever since. My blog entry of yesterday was one of the best ones I have written, but it was read by just a few dozen people. Instead of the phenomenal story of MorrisseysWorld gaining more and more followers, the opposite has happened. You couldn't make this up, although many people still think that "somebody" is making it all up, although who? and why? and more to the point how?, they do not say.

Our old friend and ex-MorrisseysWorlder, Rosy Mires (@RosyMires) tweeted yesterday, "Oh look, Morrissey is on twitter. Again. Not." They all fail to believe, and yet they can't walk away. And they can't explain.

Yesterday's visit to the Twitterdilly Arms by Morrissey started in controversial style, with him jokingly announcing, "One awoke to the news that Robbie Williams has died. How will Take That survive." The tweet was soon followed by, "I have the deepest respect for Robin's decision. He has taken final control of his life. It was his decision. He couldn't live anymore. RIP." Later on, in a conversation with me, Morrissey added, "There was nothing behind the eyes. It looks like he was on auto-pilot for years. Public face is not private reality."

Both Broken and Astraea also left touching comments on my blog of yesterday, with Broken giving a tribute to Williams, whilst Astraea made an observation on the human mind:

"Robin Williams was a charming and talented human being who lived in darkness, yet brought light to others. Suicide is always a tragedy, but at least his suffering is now at an end.

An elderly Robin Williams would have been an entirely fitting character - perhaps the charm and humanity he embodied would have found their true voice only as senility crept ever closer.

But we don't know the whole truth. Perhaps he suspected dementia was descending over him like a veil; perhaps he didn't want to live out his days being patronised by people half his age and with a quarter of his talent."

"Nobody ever knows another man's heart and mind.

Nobody.

We are given eyes to look with and mouths to smile with, but the profound emptiness and desolation that creeps into a person's mind is a tortuous monster who knows only how to crush, how to suffocate, and how to never let go.

Gentle souls who never deserved suffering of an immensity others cannot even begin to imagine. Everyone tries their best to smile and pretend it will go away. Because the scales of justice sway one way.

Blackness consumes, until the heart itself becomes too heavy to bear.
Some people understand this. Some people know this. And some people never will.
And because it won't stop, because every beat is pain, sometimes people take it into their own hands to stop this pain.

A finality that many balk from, and a finality that many would not have the courage for, is a finality born of unspeakable anguish. And still, there is so little sympathy and understanding. People paying lip service nothing more, because in 2014 it's now trending on their phones.

It is true that we come into this world alone, and that we go out of this world alone. For some of us however, we travel through this time and place alone as well, and no outward smile will ever be able to change that, or to fool anyone.

Perhaps we were only ever given eyes to cry with, and nothing more.

With the blackness of a thousand nights, and with the heaviness and anguished misery of a thousand broken souls,

My heart is stark
because I know no other way

I hold it in my hand
because I know no other way

I look inwards
because I know no other way

And my quiet, gentle sighs are love
because I know no other way

With my eyes, with my body, and with my being

And with a tenderness with no home and with no anchor, because no one ever warned us that this is what it would be like."

Morrissey's joke about Take That brought him some flack, with @sorcha69 tweeting, "@stillMozsworld that isn't funny, someone talented died", and @Boyafraid1 adding, "@stillMozsworld Not funny, fake Morrissey. Not funny."

Death is a funny old thing, and people's reactions to it are VERY different. Some people have a black sense of humour regarding death, whilst others cannot even mention the word because of the fear it brings. Reactions are also different depending on the closeness of the death. If the death of a person has no connection to one's own life, then it becomes much easier to laugh and joke about it, as in a way, the death isn't real.

When people shared jokes about Rod Hull falling off the roof of his house and dying, it was easy for them to do so, because they'd never met Rod Hull, and his death didn't affect them, but if a family member fell off the roof and died, instead of being funny, it would suddenly become tragic, although those with a dark sense of humour would still be able to joke about it.

My dad died when I was just eleven, and I often tell people he was burnt. They offer their sympathies, and ask if it was a house fire. I say, "no, he was cremated." Am I sick for being able to laugh about the death of my own father? No, I just have a warped sense of humour.

When Whitney Houston died, Our Mozzer made a joke about it, which for some people was enough to convince them that OM definitely wasn't Morrissey. The only logic they used, was that "Morrissey would NEVER say that", and yet Morrissey has spent a lifetime saying things that people would never have predicted he would say.

If Morrissey were to die tomorrow, jokes would be made of it. Many people would laugh at the jokes, whilst others would call them insensitive. As someone once said, about four paragraphs ago, death is a funny old thing, and people's reactions to it are VERY different.

ROD HULL (ON THE RIGHT) - FELL OFF A ROOF AND DIED

I will report on the rest of yesterday's Twit Arms visit by Morrissey tomorrow, but now it is time to reveal the new chart, and this week it is an absolute belter. The chart was presented by @UpthePier in the Twitterdilly Arms at 4.30pm today, including at 4.49pm, @UpthePier playing 'I've Changed My Plea To Guilty' from the 1990 Jonathan Ross Show. At 5.09pm, Jonathan Ross (@Wossy) tweeted EXACTLY the same Youtube clip. Jonathan KNOWS, you know!

  1. Gosh, that is a lot of kisses Morrissey received in just 4 minutes! Wonder how many kisses he has received so far on stage? That must be a quite staggering number...

  2. Mine eyes have seen the glory of the sacred wunderkind
You took me behind a dis-used railway line
And said "I know a place where we can go
    Where we are not known"
And then you gave me something that I won't forget too soon...

I just adore the first picture of Brigitte that you've posted above of the two. She has such very pretty rings in that photo, don't you think?

Such very, very pretty little fingers and rings. Yes. And YES.

And now, lovingly on the move again. Aching but to never arrive. Sparing nothing but a thought, and a touch. And the needle on the record.

Without a rebel but forever the cause,

    Dissident, to the core.

    1. Hmm. First of all @stillMozsworld is spotted playing Youtube footage from The Haçienda, which includes These Things Take Time, and now you are quoting the song too. To my knowledge, Morrissey has NEVER sung it live as a solo artist*. Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps.

*It was featured a cappella during Speedway once: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EW2tosFJcG4&feature=player_embedded

    1. Hi Sarah, you say of the Take That joke, "it isn't funnt (sic)", but that is just your opinion. Other people WILL find it funny. Robin Williams might even have found it funny, although he probably wouldn't have had any idea who Robbie Williams is! Come to think of it, does ANYONE outside Stoke-on-Trent know who Robbie Williams is? To call a throw away joke like this one "abuse", is beyond silliness. Grow up.

  5. Quite an impressive chart, Ratty. Thanks to Astraea for the exquisitely poignant description of depression. Only someone who has personally suffered through the black depths of despair could write such profoundly moving words. I was sad to see SMW say farewell on twitter earlier this evening.
