Day 2344 - The Price is wrong

Yesterday I reported that Morrissey had rather charmingly called me a, "lazy cunt" for not having blogged, but then a few hours later, our hero had the audacity to not bother to do his job, i.e. sing a few songs on a stage. Pot. Kettle. Black.

Last night's scheduled concert at the pretty looking amphitheater in Paso Robles was cancelled due to "an inoperable heating system on the stage".

THE AMPHITHEATER IN PASO ROBLES...BACK IN THE DAYS WHEN THEY HAD HEAT!

There have been a number of reasons over the years for cancelled Morrissey concerts, and a few of those reasons have subsequently been mentioned in parody pieces written by Our Mozzer, but the mention of heating has rather tickled our Heather, who thinks that this time it is the other way around. She tweeted earlier, "It strikes me as a 'life imitates art' moment, after all the parody jokes about having no heating."

There have indeed been a number of parody pieces written by OM where he mentions heating, although these are always heating issues in the home as opposed to on stage, but I still like Heather's train of thought.

One such parody piece is the very humorous The Art of Doing Nothing, which appeared on the MorrisseysWorld blog in July 2013. I republished it on FTM in January 2015, on Day 1230.

PASO ROBLES AMPHITHEATER LAST NIGHT - COLD AND HEATERLESS

Last night's cancellation came after the pre-show songs had been played, which included Lulu's To Sir, With Love, which was Number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 exactly 50 years ago... we're getting old!

An anonymous person on So-low has reported that the band had rehearsed a few songs earlier in the day, which included: How Soon Is Now, I Started Something I Couldn't Finish, Suedehead, Glamorous Glue and... (I Never Promised You a) Rose Garden. If it was true about Rose Garden, then it would have been yet another nod to our little band of outsiders. The last time Morrissey sang the song - in July 2015 - I wrote on Day 1392 of FTM, "You don't want to believe, you are sleeping", which are the exact same words I repeated in my blog entry of yesterday. Coincidentally; or not so coincidentally as the case may be, that blog entry of mine from Day 1392 had been viewed four times yesterday. Make of it what you will.

MORRISSEY WITH A BLUE ROSE GARDEN IN NEW YORK, SEPTEMBER 2016. NODS TO THE BRS CONTINUE TO COME, SO ARE WE LEADING UP TO ANOTHER BLUE ROSE BEING ACCEPTED ON STAGE SOON?

There has been a very disappointing lack of Youtube footage from the previous two concerts in Seattle and San Fran, with no sign of My Love, Jacky, Kiss Me or Glamorous Glue. In fact, as I write this, the only clip that has appeared in the past 24 hours is of I Started Something I Couldn't Finish from the SF concert. The 'Heinz baked beans' lyric change remains.

As there is no concert to report on, I shall take this opportunity to mention yet another journalist who lies. I wrote about the lies of Donald Clarke on Day 2316, but this week it is the turn of a really nasty piece of work called, Simon Price (@Simon_Price01).

SIMON PRICE

I had never heard of Price before crossing swords with him on Twitter the other day. His twitter bio states that he is an "award-winning pop critic and club DJ, who formerly worked for the Independent and Melody Maker". From the look of him, I would imagine the only awards he has won are for pie eating, but I'll try not to get personal, and just stick to the facts.

Price has been tweeting (he has an official blue tick) to his 21,000+ followers that Morrissey is a racist. Unlike the likes of the NME and The Guardian; who are sly and subtle with their continuous veiled accusations of Morrissey being racist, Price is very blatant about it. His tweets are nasty, unfounded lies, and it just isn't right that it should be allowed to happen. As solicitor Andrew Reid once said before Lord McAlpine took Sally Bercow to court for making up lies on Twitter about him, "Twitter is not just a closed coffee shop among friends. It goes out to hundreds of thousands of people and you must take responsibility for it. It is not a place you can gossip and say things with impunity, and we are about to demonstrate that." Bercow subsequently lost the case, was forced to publicly apologise, and was made to pay damages.

SALLY BERCOW - DEFAMED ON TWITTER AND PAID THE PRICE

Price's allegations are based mainly around his interpretation of what he reads in The Guardian, but he has also accused Morrissey of being racist because the type face used on his t-shirts is the same as that used by right-wing Oi band, Screwdriver. Yes, I'm being serious!

RACISM BY TYPE-FACE ASSOCIATION

Price has tweeted that Morrissey supports fascist politicians, and yet when I asked him to provide dialogue showing support, he couldn't.

Statements by Price tweeted last week include:

"He's a rancid old racist and he doesn't even bother hiding it any more."

"I've been convinced by the fact that he keeps making racist statements and backing racist politicians. Time and time again, year after year."

"You are living in denial that your hero is a long-term, outspoken and blatant racist."

"He spouted a load of racist poison to the NME."

"He's consistent in being a racist arsehole."

I find these statements deeply offensive, so goodness only knows what Morrissey must feel when he reads such things, or perhaps he's just gotten so used to the lies that he has learnt to ignore them all. Price's tweets are the epitome of deformation of character, and I would love to see him dragged to court. Perhaps if he were to be bankrupted, it would help him lose weight.

On a lighter note, we now look towards Friday, and the Hollywood Bowl.... let's hope they've put the central heating on.

  1. It would be delightful for Rose Garden to make a reappearance. Since you mentioned that the etching on the I Started Something single should become our motto, I thought it interesting to note that the artwork for that single includes a close-up of the roses on Avril Angers' dress, as described on passionsjustlikemine.com:

"Avril Angers from "The Family Way" (1966). A close-up of the roses she wears on her dress (not seen on the front of the 7" or 12", only on the front of the cassette artwork) is shown on the back of both vinyl formats. A very faint beige tinted close-up of those roses is found inside the cassette-single insert."

  2. "I would imagine the only awards he has won are for pie eating" made me laugh.
What an ejit Simon Price is. As you say, very hurtful & defamatory words. I can't imagine how it must feel to be attacked in this way.

  3. wow never heard of Simon Price until now and as some of us have to work most days colonel whiskers we miss a lot on twitter (jealous dig there) but thanks for writing about it, I too would love old Mozzer to slap this guy down but is it all worth it and as for the cancelled show we have all had those and whilst at the time it drives you mad we all get over it very quickly, after all who can play a guitar with cold fingers, so it is on to the next venue and wow.. rose garden.. how in your face can Moz get with it.. but remember people we are all nutjobs it must be true I read it on so-low, speaking of which I just had to post a reply to some guy spouting about Robert Smith and the cure once playing in schorching heat and never missing a beat, well not long ago Moz and the guys played Fort Canning Park in Singapore so I don't understand the point he was making, maybe it was because Robert Smiths' lippy was running or something, maybe he should have taken note in such heat and just painted his fingernails like some cool dude we all know
