Day 2405 - Gone to ground

Our journey may be over, but another 'coincidence' has been spotted. Twitter user Caitlin (@a_m0nster) contacted me earlier today to link me to a Morrissey interview with the Telegraph from June 2011, in which Morrissey said, "You can be a hoot on the internet, and the world still wouldn't know about it."

This was obviously a reference to the MorrisseysWorld blog. It hasn't been mentioned on this blog of mine before because that interview was three months before I had discovered MorrisseysWorld. I shall add it to our list.

2011 now seems like such an innocent age compared to today. In 2011 Morrissey could give interviews to newspapers without every single comment being taken out of context and turned into a sensational headline. Also in 2011, the MorrisseysWorld blog was dismissed; mainly on the basis of Morrissey's fans saying, "he just wouldn't do it", but if the blog had been born now, then I think more fans might have been more open minded to it actually having been Morrissey. I guess we'll never know.

Our Mozzer disappeared from The Wrong Arms on Christmas Eve, and the real Morrissey has also gone to ground - he hasn't been heard of now since his State of the Union address on December 17th. Perhaps Morrissey has gone all Howard Hughes, and has cut himself off from the outside world - I wonder how long he would have to be off the radar before people ask the question, 'Where is Morrissey?'.....well, actually, as I'm writing about it now, the answer to that question is 13 days!

WHERE IS MORRISSEY?

If Morrissey has decided to disappear, I wonder if the Feb/March UK tour will go ahead?

In other news, producer, Tony Visconti has given an interview to The Irish Times saying that Morrissey, "has a knack of pushing people away from him. It's the way he lives his life." I don't think Morrissey would deny this.

In other, other news, Jacky's Only Happy yesterday returned to Number 1 in the UK Vinyl Singles Chart.

And now, I shall return to the cold.

  1. I'm curious why you think people would be more open to MW now than in 2011. I interpreted M's internet statement as pertaining more to releasing new music than to MW, but I really enjoyed re-reading that interview, and it's nice to see you blogging again, Rats. My thoughts have been with Moz often during the past couple of weeks, missing him loads and hoping he's ok.

    1. In answer to your question, back in 2011 Morrissey fans genuinely believed that Morrissey still used a fax machine and had no understanding of the internet. They now must surely realise that this just isn't the case, and would therefore be more open to the possibility that MW really was the work of Moz.....or maybe not!
Don't get too excited about me returning to blogging, without a Mozziah to follow, I have nothing to write about. Tony V's quote seems quite real to me, I think we have been pushed away. I guess it was inevitable, but WHAT a ride!

  2. Nice to see you back Mr Ratty even if it's just for a brief note. I always figured it was Morrissey's prerogative as to how much he wanted to interact with the media or with BRS. I was happy with whatever he gave. I will admit it is not that unusual for him or anyone not to want to interact with others during this time of year. The Holidays seem to do that to some. Not that it's just you're busy with the hustle and bustle of fitting it all in, but, depending where you are, the weather is not always agreeable. I know, as I am currently sitting in my house with a cold in the cold. Temperature outside is zero or below, but the weatherman has to add how even lower it feels if you add in the wind chill factor. Seems I remember a singer using the phrase, "I am miserable now", which I am, especially as I write this on my tablet, and every time I cough, I mess up what I am writing. I just hope Moz is not ill and that he just needs a break. I did enjoy reading the interview from 2011 and the memories it brought of MW when it was really active. It was so much fun back then. Hope all are doing well and had a good Holiday season.

    1. I honestly saw this, thought I was the only one and said “Why even bother” - I think Sam may know a bit about things. He had on a Rose shirt a few weeks back.

    5. Oh, good grief. Has someone increased the strength of the vodka that is being introveniously drpped into your bloodstream?
Anyway, I haven't got time to keep coming on here to respond to comments, I'm a very busy man....or something.
The BRS is dead. FTM is dead. The Rat is dead.

  4. Morrissey has been very much in my thoughts recently.
As much as he is missed, I can completely understand if he has decided to move on from BRS. I say this, hoping he knows we still care & that he is OK.

  5. Nice to read you again Rat.Happy New Year everyone. I am pleased I even found all of you and FTM. M an amazing artist he knows this. But the stress and backlash just from opening his mouth I can’t even imagaine what he goes through on a daily basis. His therapist probably advised stress management : stay away from anyone you know. Don’t blog and definitely don’t create any new pessoas. Hope he is doing ok and that the journey isn’t over, only on an extended winter break . It’s f*icking cold everywhere! So button up get your cocoa and check your Twitter TL. It’s amazing what you can find there like people who enjoy gin and sausage.

    1. There is no Mozziah to follow. Whatever Our Mozzer is currently doing, he isn't doing it around here.
As for me, I am spending my time pondering the meaning of life and watching old black & white films that I've recorded from Channel 343. Taste of Honey is my film of choice this afternoon. Oh the big ship sails through the ally ally oh, the ally ally oh, the ally ally oh.

  8. hello, i've only read your blog posthumously (came to a halt?) so i doubt anything i have to say will hold much weight. i just want to post this quote from your blog:
‘Moz may be ready to throw in the towel, but it is our job, NO, it is our DUTY to make sure BLUE ROSE continues.’
whether or not i can make it to the concert in leeds is up in the air right now because my parent's evening is on wednesday and i can't image that going well. if i go though, i will be at the barrier with a blue rose.
there is nothing more i can do other than say that the media's lynching of morrissey has never, and will never, represent what his fans think of him. those who don't play the game will never live easy.
